When it comes to recording my gratitude for God's great goodness and all the blessings which have come through the understanding and application of Christian Science, I feel much like the Psalmist when he said of God's works (Ps. 40:5), "They are more than can be numbered." My mother became interested in Christian Science while I was still a schoolgirl, and I well remember her exclaiming, after reading the first few pages of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, "All my life I have been looking for this religion." She was healed very soon afterward of periodic sick headaches of long standing.

Although I attended Christian Science services and lectures frequently with my mother and was much benefited by Science, I did not earnestly pursue this study until after my marriage. My children were born under Christian Science treatment, and each experience was harmonious. However, several days after the last birth, I experienced a bad case of hemorrhoids. After much discomfort I turned away from self, and the following statement from Science and Health came to my thought (p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints." I was instantly healed of all discomfort and fear, and the physical manifestation left soon thereafter.

When my first son was about two years of age, he had measles. We had Christian Science help for about a week; but as there was not much improvement, we asked a practitioner to come to our home. While I sat holding him in the presence of the practitioner and her husband and members of my family, the practitioner rehearsed various Bible healings, as well as some healings she had seen in her own experience. The little boy, who had been too ill even to notice his toys, got down from my lap and pulled a little toy across the floor. The husband of the practitioner looked over at me and said, "Your child is healed now." And so he was. Shortly thereafter he had a good sound sleep, and when he awoke he returned to his normal activity. This healing took place more than thirty years ago, and there were no aftereffects. He entered school at the proper time and was not absent or tardy for the following twelve years.
