The Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy have been the objects of my constant study for some time, and during the past few years I have become a member of The Mother Church and a branch church. This solid foundation has helped me to overcome many discordant conditions. Not long ago, however, I suffered a severe cold with distressing physical effects, and this time I felt powerless to handle the difficulty. When fear began to come into my thoughts I called for Christian Science help. It was so faithfully and lovingly given that I soon began to recover, and the difficulty disappeared.

I thanked God for this demonstration of freedom, but with my thankfulness came the feeling that I should make a self-examination, a search for the subtle errors which had brought on the discordant condition. The search of my consciousness brought to light that with the growing turmoil and confusion of daily conditions I had allowed myself to criticize and condemn others. This practice had resulted in the building up and harboring of resentment.

Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, plainly indicates that Love, not resentment, should govern our thoughts. As I endeavored to put this teaching into practice, all resentment disappeared. I am thankful now to know that self-examination is something to which we should resort continuously, instead of being forced to employ it only because of an extremity.
