RIGHT DESIRE AND FULFILLMENT

To all who are seeking a higher, more satisfying sense of life, Christ Jesus has given this precious promise in the fourth beatitude (Matt. 5:6): "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." Through the revelations of Christian Science, we learn that every right desire is brought to fruition.

The life of Christ Jesus was without doubt the most perfect and complete example of holy desire and divine fulfillment. His every thought was God-inspired, his every desire satisfied by divine Love, because the keynote of his life was (Luke 22:42), "Not my will, but thine, be done." His ascents to the mount of holy communion with God were always followed by his healing and blessing those who sought and followed him. One of these occasions is related in the seventeenth chapter of Matthew, in which we read that Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John up into a high mountain and was transfigured before them. When he came down where the multitude were, he healed an epileptic boy whom the disciples had failed to heal.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the author, Mary Baker Eddy, says of Jesus (p. 51), "He was inspired by God, by Truth and Love, in all that he said and did." It is the consciousness inspired by Christ which heals spontaneously. When all our thoughts and deeds are brought into subjection to the will of God, we shall heal every case as quickly as Jesus did.
