Christian Science was presented to me about thirty years ago when I wore eyeglasses with thick lenses which had to be made stronger every year. One morning, as I got out of bed, I stepped on my glasses and broke them. Since I relied on them greatly, I was in utter despair and wondered how I should get through the day.

Our five-year-old daughter had been going with a friend to a Christian Science Sunday School. When she saw my concern about the glasses, she said, "God must know that you don't need them." Her words gave me confidence to call a Christian Science practitioner and ask for help.

The practitioner listened to my tale of woe and then asked me to read a certain page in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I almost shouted at her that I could hardly see the book, let alone read the pages. She advised me to calm myself and to call her later.
