During many years of searching...

During many years of searching I found no answer to my question as to what God is, nor how to be in contact with Him consistently. Educated beliefs—evolution, rationalism, various philosophies and theologies—were pondered but led nowhere. The longing of the heart would not be denied, neither would the demands of intelligence; and there was apparently no way of reconciling one with the other. I felt much unhappiness until in an extremity of lack of supply my husband and I were introduced to Christian Science by loving friends, who took us to visit a practitioner and also gave us a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The quiet sureness of the practitioner impressed me, and I felt new hope of finding a way out of tangled material theories.

I read the textbook almost constantly, and the leavening of thought began. Doubt and depression were exchanged for trust, the understanding of God, and an earnest effort to conform to His laws. We entered our children in a Christian Science Sunday School and were faithful in studying the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and in attending the lectures and church services. Later we became members of The Mother Church and a branch church.

Supply was manifested to us in wonderful ways when willingness to be humble and obedient was demonstrated in our little family. Successive years have brought me the great blessing of class instruction and the privilege of serving a branch church in many capacities, including that of Second Reader. I was grateful never to be absent from the desk because of illness during my term.
