THE WORLD OF CHILDREN
In her great love and wisdom our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, established the Sunday Schools as an activity of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Here the children may come and learn of the priceless things of God—learn in their early years to discern between the things that are good and real and the things that are evil and unreal. Here they may lay a firm foundation on which to build up a world of peace and universal brotherhood. They are taught that their true individuality is the reflection of God. Thus they are equipped with the armor that will enable them in any conflict to be the victor over those things which would seek to destroy the natural goodness which is their divine heritage. They learn to love "whatsoever things are true ... honest ... just ... pure ... lovely ... of good report," and to "think on these things" (Phil. 4:8). Thus they gain an understanding of how to work out their problems through Truth.
The desire of every Christian Scientist is that our Sunday Schools may be full to overflowing. This desire, however, can be fulfilled only as our prayers go out beyond the boundary of our own particular Sunday School to the children of the world. Jesus said (Mark 10:14), "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." We can make it our holy task to do our part in removing all that would forbid the children's coming to Christ, Truth, as taught in the Sunday School, by showing our interest in all that concerns them.
The world often offers them an endless variety of so-called amusements, which largely emphasize the material, the sensual, the brutal, and the sordid. These distractions tend to keep children in a constant state of mental excitement and unrest, robbing them of their natural receptivity to good. Only the understanding of demonstrable Truth can give them the inward stability that they need.
