I submit this testimony in gratitude to God for His loving-kindness and tender mercy toward me throughout my entire life, even before I came into a knowledge of the teachings of Christian Science. From childhood I had a desire to live in accordance with the teachings of the Bible, but without the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures I could not rejoice and be happy through trials and tribulations. Nor did I derive much comfort from the false belief that to be in the presence of God I would first have to pass through the valley of death. During the many years that I wrestled with this belief, unhappiness, hardships, and the burden of responsibility so weighed me down that I became sick and despondent. The medical treatment that I received from doctors failed to ease my problem.

It was at this point in my life that a distant relative gave me some Christian Science literature to read. As I read the testimonies of healing, my heart began to rejoice that I had at last found the healing Christ, Truth, taught and demonstrated by Jesus. The reading of the Bible and of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, awakened me to the new heaven and new earth of Spirit, and an immediate change took place in my affairs. As I continued this study, my body responded to the spiritual truth, and I experienced a proof of Jesus' words when he said to the Jews who believed on him (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

I have had many healings; some have been instantaneous, and others have been slow, but all have afforded spiritual growth. One healing in particular stands out to me. I cut the knuckle of my thumb to the bone. At first I felt very resentful and asked myself why this had happened to me. Immediately came the angel message, "You have an opportunity to prove the allness of God." Right away I remembered a statement in the textbook (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care."
