ESSENCE OF HAPPINESS

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

HAPPINESS belongs to man by divine right. Mary Baker Eddy says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 57), "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love." Unhappiness is negative, a suggestion of mortal mind, and therefore is not real. One need no more submit to unhappiness or sorrow than to sickness or sin. All these beliefs the student of Christian Science early learns to resist and destroy. Through Christian Science we all can demonstrate the God-given ability to lay hold on happiness or joy in ever-increasing degree. Man, the spiritual offspring of divine Mind, sees, knows, and expresses the qualities of his Father Mother God at all times and under every circumstance.

Affirmation of this truth for oneself and others brings added joy, peace, harmony, and an ever greater understanding of our heavenly Father's guidance, provision, and protection. Continuing her explanation of true happiness, Mrs. Eddy says (ibid.), "It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it."

Man, existing as the reflection of God, is always found sharing his Love-inherited qualities. The joy inherent in infinite Being must be and is manifested throughout the universe of spiritual ideas. It is impossible for true joy to be confined or restricted. Looking about, we see mankind expressing happiness in varying degrees. Even the joyous singing of the birds lifts thought to the recognition of God's loving provision for all. Christian Science teaches that in direct proportion to one's spiritual sense and understanding is he a transparency for the qualities of divine Being. Therefore it behooves us all to watch every thought, to see that the thoughts entertained are from divine Mind, and not from mortal mind.
