I have received many blessings...
I have received many blessings through the study and application of the truths of Christian Science, and it is with this thought in mind that I should like to share some of my experiences with others who may be seeking a better understanding of God's love and protection.
At one time it was necessary for me to make a trip to the West Coast from a midwestern city to be with a member of my family. The recent purchase of a new home had taken the money I would otherwise have had for the trip; so help was sought from a Christian Science practitioner. All plans for the trip were made and reservations were obtained, for I knew that God's supply is ever adequate. Two days before the date I was to leave, sufficient money came to more than take care of my first-class accommodations on the train.
Before retiring the second night, I spent two hours reading Christian Science literature. When the lights were turned out, I found that sleep would not come, and I felt the need of turning my thoughts to God and His protecting power. I opened the Bible to the ninety-first, one hundred twenty-first, and twenty-third Psalms. Then I read on page 578 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy's interpretation of the twenty-third Psalm.
Prayerful work was continued throughout the night, and one of the thoughts held to was in Mrs. Eddy's words (ibid., p. 424), "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." At daybreak the train came to a sudden stop on the desert. I immediately thanked God that since there could be no accident in His kingdom, we could not experience any, for in reality we were in that kingdom.
Going to the steps, I could see various trainmen working near the engine. I returned to my compartment and realized that my motive for this trip was from God and that am adjustments would have to come under His law. Upon going to the diner for breakfast, I learned that a door of a freight car on a passing train had become dislodged and had been thrown in front of our engine, causing it to jump the tracks. No damage had been done, however, and after about two hours' delay, we continued on our journey. There had been no panic or excitement, and many aboard did not even know what had happened, but had slept through the experience. I silently thanked God for His protection and care. I have had many other proofs that absolute reliance on God meets every human need.
I am grateful to God for Christian Science, for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, who so courageously stood alone to give us the final revelation of Truth. The practitioners, who help us over the hurdles of material sense, and the Sunday School, where my three children learned the basic truths of Christian Science, have been great blessings. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction, and for the Christian Science periodicals.—(Mrs.) Grace H. Muse, Wheaton, Illinois.
