I have had the benefit of Christian Science since birth and have received innumerable blessings from its use. During my childhood, Science was my only physician, and through it I was healed of such things as whooping cough, measles, mumps, and chicken pox.

When I grew older, however, although I did not lose my faith in Christian Science, I ceased to attend church or Sunday School regularly and began to smoke and drink. Nonetheless, even during this period, I received help in Science.

At one point during World War II, when I was enrolled in a naval officers' training program, I was informed, following an unexpected physical examination, that my vision no longer met the required standard by a considerable margin. I was told that I would be forced to discontinue the training program and thus fail to receive a commission unless a subsequent examination, to be held two or three days later, should show that my vision did meet the standard. Prayerful work was taken up in Christian Science, and I had no difficulty passing the second examination. I have had no trouble with my eyes since that time.
