POSITION

Position is one's stand or conviction on issues confronting him. One dictionary defines "position" as a "manner or way of viewing something; mental attitude." More and more the world is acknowledging that it is the inward conviction or attitude which determines one's outward circumstance. Christian Science, or the Science of being, explains intelligently the ever-presence of God as Mind, and man's relationship to God as the manifestation of Mind. Mary Baker Eddy writes in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 274), "Divine Science is absolute, and permits no half-way position in learning its Principle and rule—establishing it by demonstration." In this radical declaration Mrs. Eddy leaves no room for dualism—for the doctrine that there are two powers, one good and one evil, or for the impositions of the carnal mind.

God, the one divine cause, creates and maintains man as His own expression, and man forever remains and is secure in this position. Christian Science enables one to be aware of his position as actually God's idea and thus to avoid the impositions of personal sense with their involvements and penalties.

It is well to ask oneself: "What do I acknowledge as my position? Do I recognize my relationship to God, my wholeness or health, my abundance? Or do I accept mortality and friction, disease and lack, as inevitable?" To be clear-cut and positive on fundamental issues has a clarifying effect on one's affairs. Principle is not served by unprincipled methods, by a mixing of Mind with matter or with material means of healing.
