DIVINE HELP

The need to be healthy and happy is as basic as life itself, and one of the primary concerns of human beings is the effort to attain and maintain mental and physical health. To meet this need the human mind is constantly looking for help, seeking counsel, uplift, guidance. The need for help is universal, a fundamental need of people. And the fear that they may lack help at some vital testing time, or that the help available when danger threatens may be inadequate to save, is one of mortal mind's prevalent fears. Like all fears, this one also is dispelled by the teachings of Christian Science. It does this by teaching us what true health is and how to avail ourselves of the help of God through understanding and maintaining the correct concept of health.

Christian Science reveals that we are not material persons at the mercy of physical laws of health or disease, but that we are in reality spiritual ideas, made in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, and governed by His spiritual laws of harmony and perfect order. Christian Science teaches that health is not a material condition at all, but a mental state; that the help needed to recognize and maintain this spiritually reflected consciousness of health is not human or material, but divine.

On this subject Mary Baker Eddy says in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 392, 393), "The issues of pain or pleasure must come through mind, and like a watchman forsaking his post, we admit the intruding belief, forgetting that through divine help we can forbid this entrance."
