More than twenty-five years ago...

More than twenty-five years ago I was advised by a physician to go to a sanatorium for six months' treatment for tuberculosis. I had three children in school and an infant at home; so I arranged for a nurse to come to my home and care for the children. When the nurse arrived, she told my husband that I would not have to go to the sanatorium, as she would get me a Christian Science practitioner. This she did. I had treatment from the practitioner for several months. During this time I did little but read the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, so great was my hunger for the truth. As a result of my study and the practitioner's work, I was completely healed.

Later I suffered from a tumor. Those around me were antagonistic to Christian Science, and it was a great challenge to continue in the truth. However, I was as sure of a healing as I was of my very existence. I found myself saving with Jacob (Gen. 28:16), "Surely the Lord is in this place." The great power of Truth was at work, and the light of spiritual understanding was as clear to me as if someone had turned on a great floodlight.

I studied the Bible and Science and Health, reading the latter many times, and I cultivated humility, patience, and perseverance. Finally, with the help of a practitioner, I was healed. There was no period of time required for convalescence. "Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples" (John 15:8).
