My parents and the rest of my...

My parents and the rest of my family became interested in Christian Science before I did. Curious to know what they found so interesting in it, I commenced to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had at that time a large lump on my wrist which a doctor had said could not be removed with any guarantee of success. My mother said to me, "It says in the Bible (Acts 10:34), 'God is no respecter of persons;' so if He heals others, He can heal you of that lump."

I went to the friend who was guiding my mother's footsteps in the path of Truth, and in her talk with me she quoted from Science and Health (p. 124), "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind." She pointed out that nothing can adhere to the real man but that which is good; also that nothing can come between God and man, Mind and its idea, and that nothing but good can attract man. This truth was held in thought, and the lump vanished.

I am also very grateful for the unfoldment which came to me when for some time I was unemployed. I would go daily to a Christian Science Reading Room for quiet study and prayer. One day while I was there doing prayerful mental work the words of the twenty-third Psalm came to me, "He maketh me to lie down in green pastures." The word "maketh" stood out, and I began to see that green pastures typify abundance. "God maketh me to lie down in the midst of abundance," I reasoned. "I do not just walk through it, but I lie down in it. Whether I wanted to be or not, here I am in the midst of abundance. What have I to do? Just to open my eyes, see what is true, and be grateful for it." Within two weeks I found employment, and since then I have continued to progress.
