I was told by several doctors that...
I was told by several doctors that I had a very severe heart ailment and could not possibly regain my health. They said that according to medical science I had already lived ten years longer than I should have expected and that I should be grateful for this. I had been in and out of hospitals for three and a half years and weighed less than seventy pounds. I prayed that if I had to die I would be given enough time to gain a better understanding of God; then I would be ready.
At this time Christian Science was recommended to me. I knew nothing about this religion and knew no one who was a Scientist. A Sentinel was given to me to read, and I shall never forget the joy I found in reading the wonderful articles and testimonies which were printed in it.
In one of the articles was a passage from the Bible (Isa. 41:10, 13): "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness....For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." I felt as if I had been led from darkness into light. New strength flowed through my entire body.
The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was mentioned in the Sentinel many times; so I asked my husband to purchase it for me. After I had read several chapters this thought came to me: "Why, I don't have to die to find God. I can live and find Him." All fear was gone, and I knew that I was healed.
Mrs. Eddy writes in the textbook (p. 346): "Material beliefs must be expelled to make room for spiritual understanding. We cannot serve both God and mammon at the same time." When I read this I knew that all my medicine must be destroyed and that I must worship only God. My medicine was thrown away, and before I had finished reading Science and Health, I was up and doing my housework.
On the following Sunday I attended my first service in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I knew at once that some day I would be a member of this church. It was as though a voice spoke to me that day and said, "This is it." I am humbly grateful now to be a member of The Mother Church, as well as of the branch church I first attended. In addition I have had the glorious privilege of class instruction.
I have been healed of migraine, stomach trouble, colitis, and other discords. I am deeply grateful for the physical healings, but I am even more grateful for the overcoming of ignorance of God. These healings took place over eight years ago, and it is a joy to know that my birthright as the image and likeness of God is health, happiness, activity, peace, and joy.
I am grateful to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to our consecrated practitioners for their loving work. My prayer is that those who read this testimony will find the joy and peace that I have found. I humbly say every day, "Thank You, God, for everything."—(Mrs.) Lula M. Lee, Los Angeles, California.
