"THE APOSTOLIC COMMAND"

In her entire published writings Mary Baker Eddy uses the word "pressure" only once. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she writes (p. 451): "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. They must renounce aggression, oppression and the pride of power. Christianity, with the crown of Love upon her brow, must be their queen of life."

In Christian Science one learns that there is a right idea, a spiritual counterfact regarding every material thing. In the passage just quoted, Mrs. Eddy gives the true concept of how to live under constant pressure. Certainly this is not mortal mind's unreal pressure of frustration, overwork, fatigue, limitation. This is not the false pressure of pain, misery, lack.

After urging us to "live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command," Mrs. Eddy tells us how to "come out from the material world and be separate." She gives the spiritual concept of pressure which is the very reverse of its mortal mind opposite—the counterfeit activity of the carnal mind, the false pressure which sometimes accompanies daily living.
