THE GREAT LESSON

The final answer to the world's problem of establishing freedom and security is resurrection. Christ Jesus exposed the delusive nature of destructive force for all time by his resurrection, and in this way he showed that man's immortal selfhood, the Christ, was immutable. He proved that lawlessness and brutality are powerless to destroy innocence and love. He worked out his safety individually while providing the great lesson which all mankind must learn: that Spirit, not material force, is omnipotence, that God preserves His own idea eternally.

Mary Baker Eddy defines "resurrection" in these words (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 593): "Spiritualization of thought; a new and higher idea of immortality, or spiritual existence; material belief yielding to spiritual understanding." All may experience this resurrection and take part in the rising thought of our generation. Christian Science shows one how to become conscious of spiritual existence, how to cause material beliefs to yield to Truth.

In the first place, this Science reveals God as one central, unifying Being, one creative Principle, one governing Mind. And it sets about proving the unreality of the devil, or evil mind, which Christ Jesus described as "a murderer from the beginning" and as having "no truth in him" (John 8:44). Furthermore, Christian Science unveils spiritual man, God's image, and explains the unreality of the mortal concept of man.
