Because my life has always been...

Because my life has always been blessed by Christian Science, I should like to express my deep appreciation. I have known its teachings since early childhood, and this in itself has proved a boundless blessing. When the time came for me to leave home and loving parents for college, it appeared to be quite a big step. However, as I realized that God is man's true Father and Mother, I was able to meet the suggestion of homesickness. The four years away at school proved to be a period of strengthening in Christian Science. Associations with other Scientists helped to further my love for and appreciation of our religion, which could be put to daily practical use. I was completely free from the temptations to smoke, drink, or participate in other false pleasures which present themselves to young people during their college experience. It was with deepest confidence that I consistently turned to our textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for inspiration and support in all my studies and examinations and found my need met every time.

Freedom from false attraction in human relationships was gained through Christian Science. A statement from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," meant much at this time. Speaking of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 114), "It shows the scientific relation of man to God, disentangles the interlaced ambiguities of being, and sets free the imprisoned thought." Christian Science showed me my true relation to God as His child, possessing all the qualities needful for happiness, and this set me free from the confusion and false attraction which had bound me. Since I have learned that my happiness is never dependent upon person, but is ever present, joyous companionship has come in many and varied ways.

At one time I felt that it was wise to resign from a position I was holding. After this was done, fear gripped me as I realized that in two weeks I would be without a job and a steady source of income, and that I had an apartment to maintain. At my request help was lovingly given by a practitioner, who pointed out that I must listen for God's direction and that I must live in the ever-present now, obeying the Bible injunction (Prov. 3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."'
