It is with heartfelt gratitude that I express my appreciation of Christian Science and send this testimony of a demonstration of the healing power of Truth. One evening we were visiting friends in the country. Suddenly, while the children were playing, we heard our small daughter scream. A slammed door had caught her index finger, and the door had to be opened to release it. The top of the finger had been severed.

We quickly washed the finger, and then I put a bandage around it to hold the top of the finger on. We got into our coats to go home, and as soon as we were in the car we repeated aloud "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). In a few minutes, long before we reached home, the little girl stopped crying. Upon reaching the house, I called a practitioner, who took up prayerful work immediately, first reminding me of God's allness and calming the fear in my thought. Within a few minutes the child went to sleep while being held.

However, when we tried to put her down, she awakened and cried; so I held her and sang Mrs. Eddy's hymns to her. When fear became strong, I asked my husband to call the practitioner again, and she asked him if he felt that the finger should be stitched. He replied that we would place our complete reliance on Christian Science. When I heard him say this, I was ashamed of my misgivings, for I had been brought up in Christian Science, and he had not.
