THE LONELY HEART COMES HOME
Many different meanings are given to the word "home," depending on the various human experiences; but home always epitomizes, among other qualifications, contentment and a sense of security. A sorrowing one may ask: "I am so alone. How can I have a home? That is now a part of the past."
It is not being alone that makes home seem empty and unhappy. We are lonely only when we feel alone. Sometimes one feels alone even when surrounded by one's family. On the other hand, there are those who enjoy living alone. A joy-filled home is actually as close to each one of us as omnipresent Love, because home is one of God's gifts to His children. Home is our dwelling place, where we live with our thoughts. If these thoughts come from God, our home is rich in spiritual beauty, secure in His keeping. Since God is everywhere, He is always with us. How then can we be alone?
Martin Luther is quoted as saying, "I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that I still possess." So it is in regard to our home. We must place the desire for home in God's hands, knowing that He bestows all good. At the same time, let us be very sure that no clouds of self-pity are obscuring the sunlight of His love. As we take up the daily study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, a more spiritual understanding of home, our true abiding place, will unfold in our consciousness; and we shall realize that instead of being alone, we are completely surrounded by divine Love. It is not easy to leave the past or to cease looking back; but under the direction of our Father-Mother God, we can go forward with confidence. Our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 66), "Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love."
