I have been a student of Christian Science...
I have been a student of Christian Science for many years and have given thanks at various times for some of the many blessings I have received. One experience in particular filled me with joy and gratitude. I had been through a trying difficulty in my family, and though it was eventually surmounted through Christian Science, I was left with a weight on my mind which was taking the joy out of my life. One day when I was in the garden pruning a bush, a branch whipped back into one of my eyes and caused a grave injury.
I was stunned for a moment, and then I said aloud: "Thank goodness, now I have to face up to the truth. I cannot hide from good any more." I repeated aloud, "God is good; good is All, and there is nothing else." After a while the pain and bleeding ceased, and I went into the house and read a few lines from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I went back into the garden and continued with my work, thinking of the great goodness and power of God. The temptation came to be afraid, but I did not yield to it, because I had come face to face with the truth. I felt no more pain, and only the outward appearance of the injury remained. After about a week the healing was completed. Moreover, my joy had been regained. How can I put into words what this experience means to me?
Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 161): "He who gains self-knowledge, self-control, and the kingdom of heaven within himself, within his own consciousness, is saved through Christ, Truth. Mortals must drink sufficiently of the cup of their Lord and Master to unself mortality and to destroy its erroneous claims. Therefore, said Jesus, 'Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with.'"—(Mrs.) Marguerite F. Maude-Roxby, London, England.
