This testimony is prayerfully given in the hope of bringing encouragement to someone who may be searching for freedom from bondage. Christian Science healed me of rheumatoid arthritis, for which I had been under medical treatment for some time. Attending physicians had said there was nothing more they could do except to continue with their treatments to relieve my pain, since they knew of no cure. I could not accept their verdict of permanent disability, and in my extremity I prayed for divine guidance.

My prayer was answered, for a small edition of some of Mary Baker Eddy's writings was presented to me with the comforting words that its contents would help me. I read (Christian Healing, p. 15), "You pray for God to heal you, but should you expect this when you are acting oppositely to your prayer, trying everything else besides God, and believe that sickness is something He cannot reach, but medicine can? as if drugs were superior to Deity." I realized then that what I lacked was an understanding of God.

At the time, I knew nothing of Christian Science, but a complete prayer is an answered one. The Bible, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and the Christian Science Quarterly were purchased, and a practitioner lovingly taught me how to study the Lesson-Sermons. I knew I had found the way to be free. As the truth of being began to unfold in my consciousness, a transformation took place in my body. My crooked arms, hands, and feet were made straight, and I no longer had to lean upon crutches, for complete freedom was gained. I am indeed grateful for this physical healing, but much more grateful for spiritual growth in the religion to which God led me.
