RESTING ON DIVINE PRINCIPLE
One of the most assuring truths that Christian Science reveals to humanity is that man's life rests upon and emanates from divine Principle, God. The word Principle at once brings to thought something that is dependable, immovable, unerring, and eternal. Man as the idea of Principle, created by and firmly founded upon it naturally manifests and enjoys the enduring, unchanging, and immortal nature of this omnipotent Principle. He is therefore never touched by the changing and illusive conditions and forces of matter, or by any phase of material so-called existence, with its many forms of mortality, its sin, disease, and death. Grounded on and governed by the all-power of God, good, man's life, security, and immortality are safe and impregnable.
We can prove these eternal, spiritual facts in our human experience in the degree that we accept them and base our thinking on divine Principle, which is also Love. Through the spiritual understanding gained in Christian Science we recognize that matter and evil are phenomena of an unreal mortal mind and that Spirit, good, is the only reality, presence, and power. Our true self, and that of our neighbor, as the idea of Principle, Love, then comes into view. With this vision of reality comes the demonstration of the power accompanying our true being, the dominion over all that is opposed to Life and good.
As one watches prayerfully that he does not entertain any open or hidden belief in the reality of matter and evil, he plants his feet on the Rock, Christ, on the spiritual idea of Life. Of that house which was built not on the sand of personal sense, but on the rock of the Christ-principle, our Master said (Matt. 7:25), "And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."
