In great humility I give thanks to God for this wonderful truth, Christian Science.

When I came to California from another state in 1936, employment was very scarce. I had three children, and I was experiencing quite a struggle to make ends meet. About this time I manifested a rupture in my right side. I did not have money enough to pay a practitioner, and I did not want to ask anyone to help me without pay, although I knew that a practitioner would gladly do so. Since I felt that my own understanding of Christian Science was insufficient to meet the problem, it appeared that I was up against a stone wall, and I worried a great deal.

One day, after paying all my current bills, I found I had enough money to send to The Mother Church to pay my per capita tax, an obligation I had been neglecting. I was so grateful that I felt as if I were walking on air, and I could hardly wait to get the letter in the mail. In fact, I was so overjoyed that I forgot all about the rupture. Some time later I noticed that it had disappeared. At this point I realized that I was healed and that the healing had come through gratitude.
