At a time of difficulty in my business...

At a time of difficulty in my business I was encouraged to call on a Christian Science practitioner and to place my business worries before her. At that time my future appeared very dark. A great fear possessed me that I would not be able to provide for my family. The practitioner healed me of this fear with the result that my circumstances steadily improved.

The desire to become a member of a branch church then began to take shape in my thinking. However, I discovered that smoking and drinking are not permissible for a church member. Although the drinking habit was easily overcome, the smoking was a far more difficult problem. But my understanding of Christian Science was increasing, and I was convinced that this Science was the only solution for both individual and world problems. The master Christian's admonition to his disciples was (Matt. 10:8), "Freely ye have received, freely give." My desire to become a member of a branch church and to give as freely as I had received enabled me to overcome the smoking habit, These healings, which took place seventeen years ago, have been permanent.

My branch church membership brought me great joy, since I was privileged to serve on various committees. Membership in The Mother Church was followed by the joyous and progressive move of class instruction. I served as First Reader, president, Sunday School superintendent, and a member of the executive board of my branch church. During these years of my service to the Cause of Christian Science, my business continued to prosper.
