LET US SING!

The Bible abounds in exhortations to praise God with singing. These passages are especially meaningful to the Christian Scientist, because his religion is, above all, one of true spiritual rejoicing in the allness and goodness of Spirit, God.

In looking up some of the Bible passages on singing, a student of Christian Science found her attention arrested by these words of the Psalmist (Ps. 47:6, 7): "Sing praises unto our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding." What did it mean, the student asked herself, to sing praises with understanding? Then she exclaimed joyously, "Why, that is exactly what Christian Science is teaching me to do; to sing and rejoice in the understanding of the true nature of God as infinite Spirit and of my own true nature as His spiritual image and likeness!"

The student then gratefully recalled that her first eager attempts to sing "praises with understanding" had resulted in a wonderful healing. She was suffering from heart trouble, which was supposed to have had its origin in a long and serious childhood illness. At the invitation of a relative she attended a Sunday morning service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Deeply impressed by the radiant atmosphere of joy and love which she found there, she secured a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to study it.
