MEETING AT THE SUMMIT

This editorial is being written as the representatives of four of the leading nations of the world are concluding their meeting in Geneva. The meeting at the summit is so named because it is made up of the highest governmental officials of each of the participating nations. Countless men and women of many countries and creeds have been praying for the successful outcome of the meeting. And this is fitting because the subjects touched on at the conference affect the life and welfare of all mankind.

Such meetings offer the Christian Scientist a particular challenge to use the understanding of his religion to the end that wisdom, justice, and mercy will prevail in the discussions. The Christian Scientist not only prays that those participating in the meeting will act with honesty and good will; he also lifts his thoughts higher—to the summit of prayer. He recognizes the fact that there is but one governing power, divine Mind, and that creation consists wholly of perfect ideas dwelling eternally under Mind's perfect government. The Christian Scientist maintains that in God's wholly spiritual universe there is no place for human will, deception, or disagreement.

The testimony of the material senses may picture a meeting of mortals, with separate mentalities differing in their concepts of government, in nationality, religion, and morals. But the Christian Scientist rejects this picture as false. He recognizes only spiritual ideas co-operating with each other in the fulfilment of Love's perfect plan for its creation. Such prayer is truly prayer at the summit—at the summit of exalted thought wholly in communion with God. And it must be fruitful.
