PRAYER AND PRAISE

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE gives to "prayer" and "praise," two long-honored words, new and enlarged meaning and depth. The student of this Science finds the need for prayer so constant and the occasion for praise so compelling that the usual definitions of these words are found to be inadequate. Both prayer and praise connote individual spiritual activity, and practiced consistently, they become the very warp and woof of the fabric of daily life.

The divine theology of Christian Science affords an understanding of God and of man's relationship to God which gives the basis for effective prayer. This theology, or divine metaphysics, is wholly based upon the Bible, especially upon the life, works, and words of Christ Jesus. On page 138 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says, "Jesus established in the Christian era the precedent for all Christianity, theology, and healing." Science and Health contains the complete statement of the divine Science which underlies the spiritual truth of the Bible.

Christian Science explains divine law as originating in God, Mind, and as governing His spiritual creation, including man. Prayer is the invoking of divine law whereby the seeming threats of fear, dissension, disease, are vanquished by Truth. Prayer is the individual spiritual activity by which human beings recognize God's presence and power, man's perfection, and the healing operation and ever-availability of divine law.
