"It is a good thing to give thanks...
"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High" (Ps. 92:1). When our daughter was four months old she had bronchial pneumonia. Our family physician had made several calls, but the baby grew steadily worse instead of better. Then the physician very kindly told me nothing more could be done for her. A neighbor had recently had a healing in Christian Science; so, as a last resort, I called her. She gave me the telephone number of a Christian Science practitioner who had helped her.
When I called the practitioner, she very confidently said, "I will be glad to help." In less than half an hour the baby was sleeping soundly and breathing normally. When she awoke six hours later, the fever was gone, and she was perfectly well. This experience was to me a miracle, and I borrowed a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and began to read it in order to find how our daughter had been healed. When I read the first sentence in the chapter on Prayer, I knew I had found the workable religion for which I had been hungering.
In rearing a family of four children, I have seen quick and permanent healings of measles, chicken pox, croup, and impetigo. In one instance our small son came home from school with scarlet fever, and it was necessary to report it to the city health officer. The doctor who diagnosed the case wished to give him a hypodermic injection. This was kindly but emphatically refused. When the quarantine sign was to be removed from our house, the same doctor came and asked to examine the boy before permitting his return to school. After examining him thoroughly and filling out a card for the lad to take to school, the doctor said, "I wonder if you realize what you have to be thankful for." I assured him I did, and he continued, "I have never seen a case as serious as this which did not leave some aftereffects, but he is perfectly well in every way."
