The following experience proved to me that the one Mind governs. Our son was a navigator on an airplane during World War II. At two thirty o'clock in the morning of February 22, 1944, I awakened with thoughts of our son. From reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I had gained some understanding of Truth. I immediately declared that man is in God's hands and that nothing can harm him, for divine Love is around, beneath, and above him. I soon had that wonderful sense of peace "which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7) and knew all was well.

I later learned that at this very same time our son had had to bail out of his plane, as it had been hit by flak and was on fire. When he jumped from the plane and pulled the ripcord of his parachute, the ripcord broke, and the parachute failed to open. Fortunately, his parachute was of the chest-pack type, and he clawed at it until it was released.

About three weeks later, when we received a telegram saying he was missing, I was able to declare, "God's child cannot be missing, for he cannot be separated from God." I read the Bible until one thirty in the morning. When I read the words (Ps. 46:10), "Be still, and know that I am God," again I knew that all was well, and I clung to that thought. At the end of the war we received another telegram saying our son was safe. I am very grateful for the prayers and encouragement of a practitioner who had been working for him during this experience.

Some time after our son's return I had a nervous breakdown and thought I was losing my mind. To please my family, I went to a doctor and had medical care for about a year without receiving any help. I became discouraged and asked the doctor to be truthful with me as to whether or not he could help me. He said: "I cannot help you. Go home and pray. Read your Bible and good literature." I knew he meant Christian Science literature. I diligently studied the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, but it was a long struggle, for I could not concentrate. Gradually I realized that because God is the only Mind, I could not lose my mind, and I was healed.

Since then I have had many healings through the application of Christian Science. One was of a severe burn on my hand, which was healed instantaneously when I called a practitioner for help. Another outstanding healing was of a growth on my neck. It had been a small lump for years, but one day it became inflamed and grew to the size of a half dollar. I called a practitioner for help, and after a week the growth started to drain. Before long the healing was completed. One of the thoughts the practitioner gave me to work with was Mrs. Eddy's statement regarding material sense (Unity of Good, p. 60), "This false sense of substance must yield to His eternal presence, and so dissolve."

I am very grateful to God for our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. My heart is filled with gratitude for all the good that Christian Science is doing throughout the world, as well as for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church.
