During my third college year...
During my third college year of what was intended as a preparation for a Protestant seminary, I felt strongly impelled to examine the path I had chosen. When I did so, the doubts that had been presenting themselves to my thinking were confirmed, and I gave up the idea of going into the ministry.
After I had accepted a business position I found myself searching for something, groping mentally, and experiencing a general degeneration in my business as well as in my home affairs. As conditions worsened, my search became more desperate.
One day I found myself talking about religion with a young couple I had called on for business reasons. They appeared to have something that was satisfying and worthwhile, giving a purpose to their lives that one could almost feel, and I wanted to know what it was.
