About three years ago while I...

About three years ago while I was doing my laundry, I caught my thumb in the wringer. My first thought was: "I am not hurt. As a spiritual idea of God I cannot be injured." I sat down on the stairs and very slowly repeated aloud the Lord's Prayer and the twenty-third and ninety-first Psalms. Then I worked prayerfully until I felt perfectly at peace.

Not looking at the thumb, I wrapped a cloth around it and went on with the laundry. In the wringer was the complete nail from my thumb. At once the thought presented itself that a new nail would not grow in its place. However, I declared that as a child of God I could not be denied anything that was rightfully mine, and I recalled that on page 1 of Science and Health our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, —a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." There was no pain, and I finished the laundry. In just two and a half months the new nail was completely grown out. I am truly grateful.

In our home we have had many healings, some through our own understanding and some with the help of a devoted practitioner. My small granddaughter fell on a very hot register in a store and was burned from her shoe top to her thigh. I immediately declared that God is the only power, and within fifteen minutes she was laughing. There was no more evidence of pain, and the burn healed very quickly without leaving a scar.
