ACCOMPLISHMENT

Every right-thinking individual desires to accomplish something worthwhile, something that will be helpful to him and to his fellow beings. Although the individual may be convinced that the consummation of his undertaking will bring financial gain or other advantage to him, there is a Christian standard which demands that selfishness, greed, and mad ambition should be kept out of his consciousness and activity. The motives of men must be right. Their thoughts must reflect Truth.

Christ Jesus set forth his standard in these words (John 5:30): "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."

Utilizing these words of the master Christian as one's guide, one may question himself: "Will this undertaking that I am contemplating glorify God? Will it bless others as well as myself? If it comes to fruition, will it result in injury to anyone?" When one is convinced of the wisdom, justice, and rightness of his motive and contemplated action, he may proceed with courage and joy, giving to his work the devotion of thought to which it is entitled, and confidently rest in the certainty of successful accomplishment.
