I wish to express grateful thanks...

I wish to express grateful thanks to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving to the world her revelation, Christian Science. This Science sustained and protected me during the sinking of the liner "Klipfontein" in the Mozambique Channel on January 8, 1953.

After striking a submerged object the vessel listed sharply, but I felt no fear. I knew that in truth nothing but good could happen, for our Father-Mother God is always in control. At no time was there any panic. I found myself believing and saying to everyone I met, "It is all right." The ship leveled herself somewhat, and many passengers returned to finish their lunch.

When we were ordered to our boat stations the rope of one lifeboat broke, and the boat dangled perilously over the side. As a result we in our lifeboat were overcrowded, and all baggage was ordered to be left behind. Later the crew was able to repair the damaged boat and to get away safely in it. I continued to feel God's presence all the time; it was a most blessed experience. After the boats were lowered into the water they kept dashing against the side of the vessel. At each blow I said to myself, "It is not true. Peace is true," and eventually we pulled away. We then found that there were currents to contend with, and the water was said to be shark-infested. Even so, the passengers joked among themselves; and those who were able relieved each other with the rowing.
