Although I have witnessed many...

Although I have witnessed many healings through relying completely on the truths of Christian Science, I did not come to this Science for healing. I wanted to know more about God, and I wanted to know about Him in a way that I could understand as well as believe.

A heart ailment and tuberculosis had kept me from my place in the business world, as it was necessary for me to be in bed a great deal. Finally in desperation I asked God to guide me to the understanding I was seeking. It was then that a friend wrote to me asking me to visit her and to have Christian Science treatment. I did so. As there was no practitioner nearby, absent treatment was given; and I received my healing before I saw the practitioner. I am very grateful for this friend and for the help of the practitioner.

It was not, however, until the Second World War that I became an earnest student of Christian Science. My only son had gone into the service, and this seemed more than I could bear. When I asked for help and told the practitioner that my son had gone into the service, she immediately detected the error in my thought and asked, "Whose son did you say he is?" I replied, "My son." Lovingly she pointed out the great lesson in the Bible where it is reported that Jesus told Lazarus' loved ones (John 11:44), "Loose him, and let him go." My freedom from anxiety came very quickly.

There followed a period of months without any word from my son, but I knew that he was in God's care and that the everlasting arms of Love were around every one of God's ideas, far and near. When finally I heard from him, he told me that he had been sustained by the good thoughts I had held for him. He also said that he had shared my letters with his friends and that they had said they enjoyed them because the letters were not sad and because they wanted to hear something good. I tried to include the whole world in my thought and to write nothing but healing messages that all could understand. I am very grateful that my son returned home safe and is happily employed in civilian life.

While I was seeking to know more about Truth, it came to me to take nurses' training at the Sanatorium of the Christian Science Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The joy of having this desire fulfilled is very great, and I am now proving my gratitude by doing nursing work in the Field. While I was going through my period of training it was my privilege to have class instruction. This experience has been precious to me, for without it the discords of the day would be more difficult to overcome.

Members of our family have received many healings in Christian Science. I am grateful that other members, who are not interested in it, are kindly toward it. An aged aunt expressed gratitude for what she called Mrs. Eddy's precious textbook, Science and Health, for it greatly comforted her.

For these and many other blessings I am grateful to God, but I am especially grateful for Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, who has opened the way for all of us not only to believe but to understand the truth of being.—(Mrs.) Rachael Tanner NeSmith, Waynesboro, Virginia.
