After a long illness I was practically a shut-in for several years. I felt the need to earn my livelihood, but I had had no particular training for work; and my long seclusion had made me feel cut off from contacts of every kind. I was very much discouraged.

A neighbor loaned me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and took me with her to a Church of Christ, Scientist. She also told me about the work of Christian Science practitioners. I went to see one of them and requested treatment. A little later I was offered a good position.
