DEFENSE AGAINST MALPRACTICE

Mental malpractice as understood in Christian Science is the denial of Truth. A brief explanation of the subject may be found in Mary Baker Eddy's "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 31, 32), where our Leader points out the sinful and harmful effects of breaking the Golden Rule and subverting the true laws of being. In order to be immune from mental malpractice we need to understand the most effective defense.

Mrs. Eddy makes an important statement regarding this on page 442 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She writes, "Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake." On page 237 of her book "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" she asks Christian Scientists to pay daily attention to this matter. Under the caption "Take Notice" she writes, "To Christian Scientists:—See Science and Health, page 442, line 30, and give daily attention thereto."

This statement carries particular significance when we remember that it was one of Mrs. Eddy's last published statements. She must therefore have discerned a particular need for the student to defend himself daily against mental malpractice.
