THE STILL SMALL VOICE REACHES EVERYWHERE

The prophets of olden times rejoiced in spiritual guidance. How often they must have turned away from cares of the day to listen for divine direction! Moses, Elijah, and many others trusted God. It is a matter of record in the Bible that they relied on Him to point the way. The writer of the epistle to the Hebrews said of Moses (11:27), "By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible."

The ability of the prophets to receive divine guidance was not the result of a secret formula or method. It was not a talent confined to a certain era. Hundreds of years separated the earthly careers of Moses and Elijah. Yet both of them listened for, and received, unerring directions. The answers came because of the ever-presence of the Christ, Truth. The prophets knew that God supplies every need. Therefore they could listen for and receive right ideas to meet human situations. In I Kings (19:12) the voice of Truth is referred to as "a still small voice."

Christian Scientists know that the still small voice is available today to guide all who listen for it with humble, spiritual trustfulness. Mary Baker Eddy heard the same voice that the prophets heard. Without medical means, with only the Bible as her guide, she was healed of a so-called fatal injury. She went further. Through careful listening she gave mankind one of its greatest blessings—the practical, demonstrable revelation of Christian Science.
