I desire to relate the history of...

I desire to relate the history of my first healing in Christian Science. It occurred many years ago, but the details are still fresh in my memory.

Before Christian Science came into my life I was stationed at a port on the Persian Gulf, and while there I contracted a severe form of malaria. After considerable suffering I was transferred to a large city in India, where I was placed under the care of the principal medical officer. After an examination he said to me, "I will give you a drug which is an infallible remedy for malaria, and in a short time you will have no further attacks." He spoke with an air of such confident assurance that I implicitly believed his statement. In a very short time the attacks suddenly ceased. This freedom continued for some time, and then the malaria reappeared with increased intensity. The disease had been lying dormant in my thought, held in check only by my belief in the supposed efficacy of the drug that had been given me.

In the meantime Christian Science had come into my life. I applied to a practitioner in India for help and later went to London, where I received treatment from a practitioner to whom my case was transferred. There was some improvement in my general health, and on my return from leave I was sent to the port on the Persian Gulf where I had originally developed the disease. Christian Science treatment was continued for some time by the London practitioner, and the attacks gradually diminished in intensity until at last they faded out altogether. The fear of the disease was completely destroyed by Christian Science treatment alone, and from that time, now forty-seven years ago, to the present day there has not been the slightest symptom of a return of the malaria.
