When Christian Science was presented...

When Christian Science was presented to me over thirty years ago, my thought was open to accept its teachings. I absorbed the statements of truth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and readily agreed that this textbook presented a logical and satisfying religion.

My first healing was of skin disease, which I had had for several years prior to my acceptance of Christian Science and which medical doctors had been unable to cure. This healing was accomplished simply by my reading Science and Health. When the desire to become a member of a Church of Christ, Scientist, prevailed over false appetite, I was healed of the smoking habit. On another occasion, when I appeared to be passing on, Christian Science awakened me to a realization of the eternality of Life.

I was sustained by God's loving care when it was necessary for me to carry on with the work of two households, my own and my parents', for a period of three years, during which they needed my help because of illness. Many times I went without a normal amount of rest and sometimes without meals, proving the truth of Jesus' words (Matt. 4:4), "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." A heart condition was healed when I learned of my inseparability from God.
