MIND'S ALLNESS

Christian Scientists often find refuge from seeming human struggles in the declaration, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all"—words taken from "the scientific statement of being," that great epitome of Christian Science written by Mary Baker Eddy and found on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

This declaration recalls the ancient exhortation precious to the Hebrews (Deut. 6:4), "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord." The Israelites were commanded by Moses, the Bible record continues, to keep these words in their hearts, to teach them diligently to their children, to talk of them in their houses and as they walked "by the way," when they lay down, and when they rose up. They bound them on the hand and between the eyes. They even wrote the sacred words on the doorposts of their houses as reminders of the basic truth of their worship.

God's oneness is His allness. Divine Mind's allness precludes the existence of a finite or evil mind; it makes dualism, a mixture of good and evil, an absolute impossibility. The Christian Scientist keeps the truth of divine Mind's allness and oneness constantly in his heart. He knows the power that this truth embodies and its applicability to every problem. He utilizes that power to destroy the beliefs of the so-called mortal mind, which would attest to a material universe, a mortal man, and the many mortally mental ills which seem to harass the flesh. He knows that the very law of his being is comprised in the fact of Mind's allness, for his Leader says (No and Yes, p. 30), "God's law is in three words, 'I am All;' and this perfect law is ever present to rebuke any claim of another law."
