I feel impelled to express gratitude...

I feel impelled to express gratitude for Mrs. Eddy's hymns and for the inspiration, courage, and spiritual strength I have received from them so many times. The hymn "Feed My Sheep" (Poems by Mrs. Eddy, p. 14) has been a special favorite. In devoting thought to its opening words, "Shepherd, show me how to go," I have found it possible to give up a false sense of responsibility which would make me feel that I had to do certain things to bring about a desired condition of harmony.

On several occasions in which it has been evident that my personal intervention would not accomplish anything, I have prayed that I might understand that God alone governs His creation and that no lesser authority can challenge or usurp His divine authority. The results have been immediate and beneficial, melting away misunderstanding, human will, resentment, or whatever the obstruction has been. I rejoice in a progressive understanding of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (pp. 193,194), "It has been demonstrated to me that Life is God and that the might of omnipotent Spirit shares not its strength with matter or with human will."

At one time a committee of which I was a member was to make certain nominations. False, prideful sense suggested that it would be my personal responsibility to make a nomination, and after careful thought I decided on a choice. Then I thought of an alternative selection, and for a time I was governed by indecision. Thought was soon corrected through the sustaining influence of previous experiences, wherein I had glimpsed the present perfection and reality of divine government. Suddenly I knew that the nomination was not mine to decide and that it would be revealed at the proper time.
