Hagerstown Morning Herald

Hagerstown, Maryland (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Hagerstown, 235 North Potomac Street, will hold two services on Sunday, April 19, at 11 a.m. and at 3.30 p.m., marking dedication of the building .... This church had its beginning in the summer of 1909 when a group of Christian Scientists held services in the home of one of the group. Later services were held in the G. A. R. hall until space was secured in the First National Bank Building. In 1913 a chapel on the corner of North Avenue and Locust Street was purchased and services were held there.

However, in February, 1922, the chapel was sold, and services were then held at 216 North Potomac Street. It was while at this location in September, 1930, that the group was recognized by The Christian Science Board of Directors of The Mother Church as Christian Science Society, Hagerstown.
