It is with a heart filled with...

It is with a heart filled with gratitude for Christian Science that I can say in the words of the Psalmist (Ps. 188:17), "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." Seventeen years ago I longed for death as a welcome release from the sufferings of cancer, which had caused several deaths in my family and was held in great dread. My condition was pronounced hopeless, and I had nowhere to turn for comfort. Since I was unable to reconcile my human concept of God and the universe with the divine ideas of love and justice, I had become an atheist.

I knew nothing of Christian Science, apart from ridicule I had heard; but the angel thought persistently came to me to try this religion. I obtained a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to read it. In spite of the distrust and animosity I felt at first, I continued to study. Soon I became willing to learn the teachings of this textbook, and I shall never forget the sense of peace which came to me then, assuring me of the omnipresence of divine Love.

I began to see that a complete reversal of thought was necessary and that regeneration rather than physical healing was my greatest need. When I began to acknowledge God, good, as the only creator and to identify myself as His child, fear was cast out of my thought, and I began to improve.
