THE OFFICE OF THE CHRIST

The revelation of Christian Science to this age is blessing not only each Christian Scientist, but indeed all mankind as well, through the redemptive work of healing which is going on daily and hourly. As Christian Science healing is understood, it is seen to be the coming of the Christ to human consciousness.

The office or function of the Christ is always to heal, or to restore harmony. In order to understand and appreciate Christ-healing it is necessary to know what the Christ is, and through the precious revelation of Christian Science the Christ is understandable to human consciousness. The many references on the subject found in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy show that the Christ is the Son of God, the divine image and likeness, the spiritual idea of divine Love. Would not this indicate that the Christ is the true identity of each one?

On page 333 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" are these words: "Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glorious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of Love." As we realize the truth of our relationship to God, we are conscious of our spiritual selfhood, and this is the coming of the Christ to consciousness. Then we know ourselves as we are known of God, reflecting the divine nature, and we are indeed permeated with "the essence of Love."
