I became a student of Christian Science...

I became a student of Christian Science after hearing the testimonies given at a Wednesday evening meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist. One of the first healings I witnessed was that of my mother over forty years ago when she was putting up strawberry preserves in an old-fashioned homemade fireless cooker. She got the kettle too hot, and before I could caution her it exploded, throwing some of the preserves on her arm. She immediately put a dishcloth over her arm and went into her bedroom. In about five minutes she came out again with her arm bandaged and went ahead with the evening meal.

The next morning when she was preparing breakfast I took particular pains to look at her arm. There was not so much as a red spot where I knew she had been severely burned. Shortly after this I joined a Christian Science Society and later began teaching a Sunday School class. I have been teaching in the Sunday School ever since.

One summer I had a troop of boy scouts in the San Bernardino mountains for a week's vacation. It was customary in the evening for the boys to play a rather strenuous game called "Capture the Flag," in which they took prisoners and did a lot of running. At nine o' clock one evening I blew the whistle for the boys to come in. One of the boys put his hand to his eyes and said: "Oh, I have lost my glasses. My mother paid fourteen dollars for them, and I can't go home without them. I'll give anyone who finds them a dollar."
