In the Manual of The Mother Church Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states (Art. VIII, Sect. 24): "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)."

My first healing in Christian Science was that of acute laryngitis. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner whom I had never met I was completely healed by absent treatment in four days, and the healing has been permanent. This experience stirred me greatly, for I knew nothing about Christian Science healing at the time. Under medical care for laryngitis I had been accustomed to being confined for three weeks or longer. With this healing came the desire to study the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly; and this I have made my daily practice ever since.

Later, through my own understanding, chronic headaches, which had plagued me for a long time and of which I was very fearful, instantly vanished when I realized that "disease has no intelligence with which to move itself about or to change itself from one form to another" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 419). At that time my head had been aching in a different place than usual. When I became aware of the truth of the words just quoted, the unreality of the discord became apparent, and I was healed.
