HAPPY OF HEART

It is good to be happy of heart. It is good to feel the quiet influence of divine Love, to utilize the courage and strength that come from reliance on divine Principle. The rhythm of Spirit is felt when the harmonies of true being are understood. When the senses are silent we can feel and hear "the joy of the Lord," which is our strength. When motives are governed by the intelligence of divine Mind, there is harmony of head and heart.

"Do you believe in change of heart?" asks Mary Baker Eddy in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 50); and she answers her question in part by saying, "The human affections need to be changed from self to benevolence and love for God and man; changed to having but one God and loving Him supremely, and helping our brother man."

Mortal mind never created a heart. Only God can give us our heart, which is the love of God expressed for us through the Christ, together with our love of Truth expressed by Christlike living. The heart is not a fleshly muscle within the mortal body at the mercy of valves, arteries, and ventricles. The heart is not the victim of the emotional disturbances of a mind apart from God, for since God is the only Mind, there is in reality no mortal mind to cause a heartfelt disturbance. Our right motives and actions reflect our understanding of the Christ, and when we feel the motions of Christlike compassion, the joy of spiritual inspiration, the courage of an unselfed purpose, we are aware that our heart is the individual reflection of the one great heart of Love.
