"HARVEST DRAWS NIGH"

"The harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels" (Matt. 13:39). From ancient times predictions have been made as to when the so-called "end of the world" would come, predictions fraught with great fear that everything known to mankind would be effaced and existence itself would come to nought. How comforting it is to know that the harvest which is the end of the world is not a harvest of destruction but a season of joy, satisfaction, and fruition!

Mankind is confronted on all sides with evidences of a material world, in which mortals appear to sleep, eat, move, work, and eventually die. What is this harvest which is to put an end to such a mistaken sense of existence? Is it not the awakening to spiritual reality, the seeing of creation as God beheld it when He pronounced it very good?

Salvation is not an experience which we die into or arrive at in some distant time. The reaping of the angels goes on hourly and continuously. This reaping is divine Science being made manifest in individual consciousness as one progresses in his understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 291), "We know that all will be changed 'in the twinkling of an eye,' when the last trump shall sound; but this last call of wisdom cannot come till mortals have already yielded to each lesser call in the growth of Christian character."
