TEXTBOOK AND NEWSPAPER

The same divine Mind that enabled Mary Baker Eddy to discover Christian Science and to found her Church impelled her to establish The Christian Science Monitor. The individual who acknowledges this fact, who shows that he comprehends the divine authority by which the Monitor was established by supporting it in every right and possible way, is richly and spiritually compensated. Mrs. Eddy saw that it was the privilege and duty of every member of The Mother Church, who could afford it, to subscribe for this international daily newspaper and to read it. Reading it thoughtfully, one finds that the Monitor is a singularly reliable and unbiased informant of world events.

Christian Science is awakening the world to the completely mental basis of all existence. This Science reveals further that the only reality apparent in human consciousness is found in God-derived thoughts, or the spiritual good entertained by mankind. And it declares that evil, or matter, is merely an unreal belief opposed to good. Good is God, the one infinite Mind or Spirit and His infinite manifestation.

Since evil is unreal and God and His spiritual thoughts and ideas are the only reality, the one effective solution to all individual and world problems lies in impersonalizing and seeing as unreal the evil or material sense of existence; it lies in supplanting the erroneous beliefs in human consciousness with spiritual truths, in replacing mortal fiction with immortal facts, and in silencing delusive personal discord with spiritual harmony. In "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy states (p. 310), "To impersonalize scientifically the material sense of existence—rather than cling to personality—is the lesson of to-day."
